What is the Exit Planning Summit?
Each year, Exit Planning Institute® (EPI) hosts the premier event for all things exit planning—the Exit Planning Summit. This event welcomes hundreds of Certified Exit Planning Advisors (CEPA®) to a scenic locale where they gather to converse, collaborate, and grow as business exit advisors and certified exit planners. Hosting thought leaders from across the globe, the Exit Planning Summit is a great opportunity for like-minded advisors to come together to hone their exit planning knowledge and forge deep, lifelong connections with their colleagues.
The Exit Planning Summit is about strategic growth—not just ideas but the different approaches that professionals can take to execute these plans. This is an ideal opportunity to take time out of busy days and booked calendars to slow down and leverage this dedicated professional development and networking event. It could also be a great starting point for those who have just received their CEPA designation and are eager to get started on their value acceleration journey.
After returning from its COVID-19 pandemic break in 2022, the Exit Planning Summit has grown each year, bringing new faces to new places for a variety of learning and networking opportunities. These include main stage presentations, resource & solutions labs, breakout and power sessions, a golf outing, a keynote presentation, and even more.
With all that in mind, it can be daunting to start packing that suitcase. Here are just a few things to make sure you’ve got tucked away in your carry-on, literally and metaphorically.
The Top 10 Things You’ll Need
- Share Your Summit Attendance
- An Open Mind
- The Exit Planning Summit is a three-day event jam-packed with opportunities and socializing. Make sure you have a good idea of what you want to get out of it, including education and connections. Prepare where you want to go, what you want to do, and who you want to see, and be prepared to take in a plethora of information.
- Conversation Starters
- You’ll be meeting new folks at the Exit Planning Summit, so be ready to talk, talk, and talk some more. Connect over your shared passion for exit planning or inquire about how they came to the CEPA designation. If all else fails, the age-old, “where are you from?” gives you a chance to learn more about your peers at this global EPI event.
- Make a List, Check it Twice
- Make your list well in advance so you know exactly what to pack in your suitcase. You’ll want comfortable, professional clothes, all your toiletries, any professional development tools you’ll need, your device chargers, something to take notes on and with, and an open mind. Depending on what social events you’ll be attending, you will also want to ensure you have an elevated look, golf attire, and comfortable shoes to walk in. Don’t forget your toothbrush!
- What to Wear
- Do a little preliminary research on the kind of weather at the Exit Planning Summit’s location. Since the Exit Planning Summit takes place in May, you can probably safely pack your swim trunks, but make sure you don’t forget your nice shoes and slacks too! This is a professional event, after all. Wear clothes that will make you feel comfortable and confident. Social events also provide the opportunity to dress up a little, so be sure you know where you’ll be and pack accordingly.
- Bring Your Best Self
- Want to make a good impression? Bring your best self. Any personal branding that you’re proud of should be front and center, including professional business cards or any other collateral that will give colleagues a good idea of who you are. But you’re not just a walking briefcase. Bring what matters to you – as a person. As EPI emphasizes in the Three Legs of the Stool™ Approach, value acceleration happens when you align the business, financial, and personal legs.
- Know What to Expect
- Check out the Exit Planning Summit website for the schedule so you know where you can best leverage your time—including meals, breakout sessions, and more. You want to get the most out of this experience, so the schedule prep work is essential.
- Budget Your Time
- With so much to do at the Exit Planning Summit and some activities overlapping, you'll want to prioritize which works best for your personal and professional planning. Between socials, a charity giveback, the golf outing, and more, there is no shortage of events to attend.
- Know Where You Want to Visit
- Make sure you hit hotspots, including partner booths, EPI’s resource hub, and a photo booth to commemorate your time at the Exit Planning Summit.
