The Excellence in Exit Planning Awards is bigger than our industry; it is an annual celebration of leadership. These advisors honored here today have made a lasting impact on their communities, whether local, national, or industry-wide and embody the core qualities of a true leader. They don’t shy away from complex problems. They demonstrate the ability to evolve and lead others in an ever-changing marketplace. And most importantly, they understand that nothing important is accomplished alone. K. Brooke Norman, EPI Vice President of Marketing

At the 2019 Excellence in Exit Planning Awards reception three advisors were recognized for their remarkable impact on the local and global community. The Exit Planning Institute would like to extend an official congratulations to 2019 Exit Planner of the Year, Dan Doran, 2019 Leader of the Year, Joseph Strazzeri, and 2019 Member of the Year, Vincent Mastrovito.

The exit planning profession poses unique challenges and opportunities. The advisors leading this industry tend to be more entrepreneurial, display high leadership, and are instrumental in driving best practices for their peers and for business owners themselves. “Here at EPI we think it’s time we focus on the owners and advisors who are doing things right” Chris Snider, President and CEO of the Exit Planning Institute commented. “We would love to recognize their successes, efforts and share their stories with other owners or advisors.”

This year there was a record number of advisors nominated for the three different awards. From this pool of candidates, ten finalists were chosen by a committee of diverse representatives. Ultimately, at the 2019 Excellence is Exit Planning Awards reception, three professional advisors were honored:

2019 Exit Planner of the Year:
Dan Doran, CEPA

Quiet confidence. A leader has the reserve that people want to follow from one path to the next. This is usually reflected by someone’s confidence and the ability to actually do the job they expect of other people. Dan Doran on the most defining quality of a leader

Dan Doran, CEPA, Founder of Quantive Valuations, Creator of Value Scout, President of EPI Capital Region, was honored as the 2019 Exit Planner of the Year. Named after EPI cofounder, the Peter Christman Exit Planner of the Year Award is the highest honor offered in the exit planning industry. It is awarded to a CEPA who can be directly tied to changing outcomes for business owners and leading advisors. This advisor makes significant contributions to the industry, exemplifies the core values and characteristics of EPI and the CEPA designation, while making a uniquely significant impact on the larger exit planning profession on a local, regional, national and/or international scale. Doran earned the CEPA designation in 2016 and has since become pivotal member of the CEPA faculty, EPI Capital Region chapter president and launched the EPI Rocky Mountain chapter. He is dedicated to engineering a roadmap for his clients in order to produce the outcome they desire.

2019 Leader of the Year:
Joseph Strazzeri, CEPA

Service and sharing with those around them. A leader must focus on their partners and clients and realize the difference between their head and their heart. When a leader teaches, it is about those they are teaching, not what the leader necessarily wants to preach and when a leader are giving, it is about the people they are giving to, not about what the leader needs. Joseph Strazzeri on the most defining quality of a leader

Joseph J. Strazzeri, JD, CEPA, Co-Founder of Southern California Institute, Co-Founder of Laureate Center for Wealth Advisors, Co-Founder of The Founders Group, President of EPI Orange County, was honored as the 2019 Leader of the Year. The Leader of the Year Award is presented to CEPA who has successfully trail blazed a first-of-its-kind project, initiative, or practice which has made a significant contribution to the exit planning profession and overall community. After earning the CEPA designation in 2017, Strazzeri quickly immersed himself within the EPI Community. He relaunched the EPI Orange County Chapter and immediately transformed it into a thriving chapter that is a model for others. He also teaches at the CEPA program, speaks at national conferences, and much more. Strazzeri leads through collaboration and understanding the power of a group, this attitude shines through the work he does every day.

2019 Member of the Year:
Vincent Mastrovito, CEPA

Humility and the ability to listen.  A leader must find what people are really saying and understand what their team is really talking about. They do not just hear the words, they understand what their team is really saying and has clarity about what they mean. It is a sign of respect and a sign of a true person. Vincent Mastrovito on the most defining quality of a leader

Vincent Mastrovito, CEPA, CBEC, Founder/President of Prometis Partners Inc., President of EPI West Michigan, was honored as the 2019 Member of the Year. The Member of the Year Award is presented to a CEPA or EPI Partner who contributes significantly to the EPI community of advisors and the overall exit planning profession. Mastrovito earned the CEPA designation in 2017, and since then has launched the EPI West Michigan chapter.  Mastrovito lives by the principle that the wave rises together and the CEPA core belief of collaboration. He can pinpoint and operate in a way that helps other people gain business and allows himself to be under supported In order to enable everyone to win.

The Exit Planning Institute (EPI) is an education company that provides exit planning education to advisors and middle market business owners.  We view exit planning as a strategy, not an event.

EPI leads the professional services profession with the best industry content, ongoing support, and owner education platform, all of which align with our mission: Change the outcome.

Only 2 out of every 10 businesses that come to market actually sell.  We want to increase the number of saleable businesses.

Only 30% of family businesses successfully transition to the second generation, only 12% transfer to the third, and the success rates diminish from there.  We want to improve those intergenerational transitions.

Of those that succeed in the sale of their business, 75% experience “profound regret” within one year of exiting their business.  We want to understand why and create strategies that achieve profound success, wealth, and satisfaction.

EPI is an education company, powered by an elite community of top advisors and owners, all focused on creating a valuable, transferable future for the business marketplace.
