The State of Owner Readiness™ (SOOR) Survey is a research study that collects business attractiveness and owner readiness data for the middle market on a national level. This information is powerful and from that first national survey, conducted in 2013, the movement has taken off. This release marks the first regional research EPI will release this year!
Research author, Chris Snider, remarked as he wrote this report, “These regional reports are important because it reduces the separation between national stats and local truths. Each market is different and it shows in the data. It is eye-opening for owners in the regional area.”
We are pleased to release the first 2018 regional survey: Georgia.
This research was a collaborative effort of many partners and organizations in the Georgia market. Thank you to our partners Stephen Capizzi, CM&AA, CFP®, CEPA, the President of the EPI Georgia Chapter and the Founder of Apex Exit Advisors, Melanie Kurn of The Brand Banking Company, Bruce McFadden, CPA, CEPA, of Carr, Riggs & Ingram, LLC, Christina Rebel-Otterbach, CEPA, of CRO Management Consulting LLC, Mike Tarrant, CFP®, CEPA, of Integrated Financial Group, Philip Beatty, CPA, CFP®, CEPA, of SignatureFD, and Carla Klinger of Swerdlin & Company, Cox Family Enterprise Center of Kennesaw State University | Coles College of Business, and the many supporting firms in the EPI Georgia Chapter.

Only 2 out of every 10 businesses that come to market actually sell. We want to increase the number of saleable businesses.
Only 30% of family businesses successfully transition to the second generation, only 12% transfer to the third, and the success rates diminish from there. We want to improve those intergenerational transitions.
Of those that succeed in the sale of their business, 75% experience “profound regret” within one year of exiting their business. We want to understand why and create strategies that achieve profound success, wealth, and satisfaction.
EPI is an education company, powered by an elite community of top advisors and owners, all focused toward creating a valuable, transferable future for the business marketplace.
