The 2023 Exit Planning Summit Provided Tangible Value For Exit Planners
by Colleen Kowalski on June 9, 2023
The 2023 Exit Planning Summit was the largest exit planning conference in the world. Over 650 advisors, speakers, and partners joined EPI in Scottsdale this past May to learn about business value and exit planning from industry experts from across the globe. The guiding theme of experiences, people, and innovation occurred during the three days of exit planning content.
2023 celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Value Acceleration Methodology and State of Owner Readiness Research, and the eleventh anniversary of Chris and Scott Snider’s acquisition of EPI. As such, this year’s Summit highlighted the evolution of exit planning and EPI’s continued commitment to exit planning education.

Over 35 Industry Partners
The 2023 Exit Planning Summit would not have been the successful event it was without the support of over 35 fantastic industry partners. These included our Title Partner, REAG, Gold Partner, Capitaliz, Silver Partners, Strazzeri Mancini, LLP and The Founders Group, and our Bronze Partner, UBS Financial Services, Inc.
Our partner exhibit hall was filled all three days of the Summit for attendees to connect with referral partners, develop new business relationships, and discover new systems to implement in their practices.
The Summit started with 14 Learning Labs from trusted Exit Planning Institute partners. Our attendees learned how to add value by building a collaborative team of experts from our partner network.
Exceptional Main Stage Speakers
The Summit main stage featured keynote sessions from Marc Randolph, the first CEO and Co-Founder of Netflix, Michael Kitces, Chief Financial Planning Nerd at Kitces.com, and Christopher Snider, CEO of Exit Planning Institute.
Marc Randolph took our Summit attendees on the journey of an idea and how one idea during a morning commute led to the birth of Netflix. Marc shared that business owners must be willing to take risks. He said, “If you’re not willing to disrupt your business yourself, you better expect that there will be someone out there who will disrupt it for you.”
Michael Kitces closed out the Summit on Tuesday afternoon with a deep dive session into scaling an advisory firm and the three types of firms an advisor could own. He provided an in-depth analysis of solopreneurs, boutique firms, and enterprise firms.
Chris Snider took to the main stage to discuss the Evolution of Exit Planning through the years and to lead our attendees through this year’s collaborative case study group work.
A Focus on Authorship
During the Summit, the second edition of Walking To Destiny by Christopher Snider was officially released! Chris along with a selection of 18 business authors gathered on Monday afternoon during our second annual Author Showcase to provide our Summit attendees with the opportunity to expand their professional libraries.
16 Breakout Sessions
New to the Summit this year, we offered four distinct tracks of breakout sessions. These included Exit Planning Basics, Exit Planning Mastery, Practice Growth, and EPI Partner Sessions.
Our attendees were able to select the sessions that best fit their individual needs and hear from a wide range of industry thought leaders, experts, and partner resources. These sessions offered the opportunity to learn introductory education, discover key business development strategies, and gain a mastery level of understanding of niche exit planning topics.
Professional Relationship Building Opportunities
We understand that the Exit Planning Summit might be the only time some members of the EPI community have to see other advisors and partners in person so we ensured there were plenty of opportunities to foster stronger professional relationships among our CEPAs, partners, EPI faculty, and speakers.
During our Welcome, Charity Giveback, and After Party Socials, Summit attendees enjoyed live music, drinks, hor devours, and lively conversation. Throughout the Summit we provided our community with networking breaks,
Five Inspiring and Informative Power Sessions
The Power Sessions are one of the most highly rated sessions during our Exit Planning Summit. These sessions, modeled after Ted Talks, are designed to change the worldview of our audience and help break them from the norm and experience innovative solutions for their life struggles.
This year, five impactful speakers shared their stories with our attendees. Justin Castelli shared the importance of being your authentic self and bringing that authenticity to your clients. Ben Utecht discussed servant leadership and how building better people results in better performance. Meghaan Lurtz highlighted the psychology behind effective questions. Michael Sheppard educated our attendees on building a brand with a purpose and opening a window into your life and your business. Michael Schein discussed the power of hype and how to attract the right people to your brand with the right information.
Inaugural Women in Exit Planning Symposium
After the close of the Summit this year, EPI and some of our partners in the industry hosted the first-ever Women in Exit Planning Symposium. Our panel of experts shared best practices, discussed the unique challenges facing women in the exit planning profession, and how to build value in your business.
During this one-day event, attendees experienced action-oriented workshops with national experts and leading practitioners on topics such as building your advisory team, communicating your value and closing dream clients, and more!
Our symposium attendees left this incredible workshop with new connections from across the advisory community and learned fresh insights and perspectives.
