Book Review: Discover Your Next Best Step: 10 Proven Principles of Servant Leadership Wisdom

This past week, the #LEP read was Discover Your Next Best Step: 10 Proven Principles of Servant Leadership Wisdom by Gordon D. Bell. Paige Wysocki, EPI Marketing Coordinator, contributed her personal thoughts on Bell’s book.

Discover Your Next Big Step (in 100 words or less)

Discover Your Next Best Step: 10 Proven Principles of Servant Leadership Wisdom is a manual to reflection and discovering your Next Best Step while aligning your life with Christ.

Guidance to Your Bigger Purpose

When you have been lost in the valley, not able to see the light, this book can help you reflect on the beauty around you and guide you to your bigger purpose. It teaches you to not only learn from each obstacle you encounter, but to appreciate it and view life as more than a burden.

Excellence is a moving target.

The Bigger Picture

From my point of view, this book taught me to not let myself get caught up in the little decisions of everyday life and to keep my focus on the bigger picture. It is a reminder to strive for excellence in everything that I do, not just things that will be seen by others.

The Next Big Step

Owners must lead and motivate their team. It’s easy to be swept up in daily struggles, but a leader must remind their team of the bigger picture and what they are all working towards. This book can guide an owner to discover the Next Best Step for their company and team while learning to be an effective leader.

Am I an Expert Yet?

If you are looking to increase your industry acumen with one book, this may not be the book for you. It focuses more on reflection and building your ability to be an effective leader.

I believe this book directly correlates with planning for an exit and keeping the big picture in mind. This can be used as a tool for advisors who go through the CEPA program and now need to help their clients reflect on their next step and guide them to a successful exit.
