National Women’s Small Business Month: An Interview with Nadine Nocero-Tye
by Colleen Kowalski on October 7, 2022
October is National Women’s Small Business Month. Exit Planning Institute partners with many businesses owned and operated by women. To celebrate Women’s Small Business Month, we are highlighting some of the women who work with Exit Planning Institute.
Today, we are highlighting Nadine Nocero-Tye. Nadine is Partner and VP of Sales and Marketing at SyncShow, a Marketing Strategy and Operations company. Nadine and SyncShow are working with EPI to create a new engaging and interactive website for Exit Planning Institute.
Join us as Nadine will be leading a session at our 2023 Exit Planning Summit this May in Scottsdale, Arizona. Learn more about the Summit and register to attend today!
Meet Nadine Nocero-Tye:
Nadine has over 10 years of experience in both the B2C and B2B worlds of digital marketing. She has worked to service a wide range of companies, from mid-size manufacturers to CPGs on the Fortune 500 list both nationally and internationally. Additionally, she has worked in-house and for firms in Chicago, Cleveland, and abroad in Seoul, South Korea – honing her relationship and communication skills across different industries and cultures.
Outside of work, she spent several years mentoring and leading the local chapter of her alumnae association for the national sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. From serving as a programming chair to unite women and build local networks to then overseeing the 150+ women members as President for a two-year term. Nadine is an avid advocate for urban living and served as a committee member for the Detroit Shoreway Development Organization, her neighborhood non-profit.
Tell me a little bit about your business
Nadine: SyncShow specializes in helping organizations with complex branding, sales, and marketing challenges think differently about their marketing and messaging so they can fill their sales pipelines and generate marketing ROI. We’re a HubSpot platinum partner who works with professional service firms, software companies, transportation companies, and manufacturers exclusively. We just celebrated our 20th year in business and our leadership team is located in Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois.
What inspired you to want to be an entrepreneur?
Nadine: Helping other people see their potential is what drives me as a business leader. Whether that’s growing our agency and the people that support our clients – through financial gains and professional development or crafting plans to change the way our clients operate – allowing our clients’ businesses to be more profitable so they can grow their teams financially and professionally. Seeing this growth for myself and working with others to achieve it is what inspires me every day.
What exciting opportunities are you seeing in your industry?
Nadine: I’ve worked in digital marketing since the early 2000s and it’s been a wild ride of constant change – which by default means huge opportunities. The biggest opportunity in digital marketing is harnessing the power to allow buyers to make fast decisions for things when they want them. Being able to use the internet to shorten sales cycles, increase client revenue and extend the client lifetime value is how we see such impressive growth numbers for our clients.
What are the challenges of being an owner of a small business?
Nadine: The world is moving so quickly – which can be a blessing and a curse. The last three years of the pandemic have forced many hard conversations around work from culture, to operations and of course, financials. All businesses are feeling the effects of this and you have to be thoughtful and methodical but also nimble. Crafting that balance is a challenge.
Who are your role models?
Nadine: While I read a lot of business books and listen to podcasts about personal growth and professional development – my most powerful role models are people who are really in my day-to-day world. I’ve been in a women’s wine club for nearly 10 years and these women are all professionals who own businesses or lead divisions at global companies or are educators. Many of them are wives and mothers and not only do they offer great advice as sounding boards but also give me great insight and perspective on how to be a business leader and a mother. I made partner at my firm at 36 weeks pregnant with my first child – navigating how to balance this has been so powerful for me and I couldn’t have done that without them.
How have you acted as a role model for other women in your business?
Nadine: SyncShow has a formal mentor program so I’ve been lucky enough to participate in that program but also manage team members day-to-day for success. My mentors through college and after having made such an impact to help me get to where I want to go that I now formally mentor with the Chicago Interactive Marketing Association (CIMA) to continue to ensure others are able to benefit from the type of guidance I’ve been lucky enough to receive.
What advice do you have for women looking to start their own businesses?
Nadine: Servant leadership is so important if you want to build a strong foundation for your business. Don’t ask anyone to do anything you yourself wouldn’t do. Ensure you know the math – learn the budgets, learn to forecast, and ensure you’re not spending when you don’t have the ability. So many women have great ideas and are able to nurture those ideas into reality but they fall down on the nuts and bolts of it all. I was never strong in math and now I’m obsessed with spreadsheets – it makes me feel grounded and supported. Lastly, be regimented – with your time and your schedule but also with what you allow into your orbit. Growing a business takes so much discipline and women are often the last ones to fill their own cups – make sure you’re considering this and reflect and react accordingly!
